Shooting and Editing

Hi everyone, just finished filming and editing my experimentation of movement video! I shot footage on four different locations: a country side walk, a field, a river and my school grounds. With these four locations I was able to get a variety of shots and footage to choose from. The film doesn't have a sequence as it was an experimentation film, but we will be shooting a scripted film next week!

Here are some stills from the video:

When filming there was certain safety procedures that I needed to carry out...
  1. Firstly I shot a sequence of track shots in which I had to move with the camera. To ensure I did this safely, I cleared the walk ways so there was nothing that I could trip up on. When shooting next to the river, I made sure I was a clear distance from the water, in case the camera got damaged.
  2. When shooting the whip shot through 180degrees I ensured the camera was attached firmly onto the tripod, and the tripods legs where stable. This made it safer when shooting as the camera/tripod could not fall onto anyone and hurt them or break the camera.
  3. To ensure the weather did not damage the camera or effect footage, we covered it in a waterproof sheet when transporting it. This made the camera more secure and unlikely to get damaged from the rain. We also selected locations carefully and away from any slippy surfaces caused by weather. This helped us to move more fluently and not slip over and hurt ourselves.
  4. When travelling to different locations we packed up the equipment into its packaging to keep it safe. This prevented anyone falling over it and made transportation much easier.

This is my third every movie shooting experience and I feel I have improved with each attempt. There were complications in my last videos such as minimal camera shots and understanding of camera/editing effects. However in this third video I have attempted to solve these. I am much more familiar with the editing software, I used a variety of locations in order to get the best footage, I have used a range of camera shots and movement and I have planned before shooting. All of these things have favoured my third video and I feel my skills in editing have improved to create my best video yet.

I am really enjoying learning new skills in video shooting and editing, and I am really looking forward to creating more videos in the future! Thanks, millie :)

Experimenting with shots

Hi guys, welcome to my blog!

I have recently started my AS media which is really exciting and our first task was to experiment with different shots to create a small video. I did this using a variety of different settings and I was able to learn more about how to capture footage and how to edit. Not only was I able to learn more about how to shoot effective footage, but I was also given the opportunity to use some equipment such as a tripod. This allowed me to be able to make shots appear more professional as the camera image was still and controlled.

I tried to experiment using a variety of Mise En Scene to make my video more exciting and intricate. Most of my video was shot on my schools campus however, to add more variety between shots my partner also shot some footage at home. Here are some images of me and my partner creating our video...

This is me shooting an extreme close-up of a flower.

Once I had collected all the footage I needed, I uploaded it onto an editing programme and began to learn how to use the different features on the software. After this was completed, I began to create my video. At first the software was challenging, trying to understand all the different features, effects and audio was difficult, but after a while I became more confident.

I experimented with different transitions including the 'fade' to make my video more interesting. I also added music in the background to again appeal to the audience and give the video depth. This is the video I have created:

After I had completed my video me and my partner had some time left, so we decided to use this opportunity to create a bloopers video. This gave us the chance to experiment with a range of different software application and we got to know more about how to create an effective video. We created this using the footage that hadn't been used in our original video. Here is our bloopers video:
