So one of the first opening sequences I looked at was walking dead. Despite it not being a film, it still fit all of the conventions of an opening sequences, and fit with my genre well.
Some interesting comments although as you point out this is a TV title sequence. Worth comparing to (for example) the opening of "Se7en" or the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. There are some conventions of opening sequences which you've not discussed (for example, the order/ nature of credits) - you should think about this as well as the generic aspect.
I have created a powerpoint presentation on the opening sequence of 'se7en' and I have made improvements on this powerpoint. I have added notes on credits, genre and how it has helped me plan towards my final piece.
